The Saab Sapphire was developed by Saab AB in the 1940s as a school and training aircraft. It was used by both Swedish, Norwegian and several other countries' air defences, in addition to civilian flying clubs.

The Sapphire is known for:

  • Very good flight characteristics
  • Robust construction
  • Harmonic controls - perfect for acrobatics

The aircraft type has trained generations of pilots in Scandinavia over the decades - and remains highly valued in the veteran aviation community.

Local anchoring

The fact that LN-SAP and LN-SAO belong to Sola Flystation Flyklubb makes this extra special. These are active club aircraft with a strong local connection, and a great example of the vibrant flying environment at Sola.

When two Sapphires dance across the airport in formation and acro, there is history, precision and flying direction brought together in one act.
